Caring for Your Child

Key People

We assign a key person to each child, who have a vital role to play in developing secure attachments with their key children providing a settled and close relationship. We hope through this bond the children will feel independent, happy and secure enough to explore and try out new things in our rich learning environments

Key people at Edgbaston Nursery School focus on children’s emotional well-being by nurturing close, trusting and supportive relationships. Practitioners continually pay attention to and spend quality time with their key children in all aspects of their day to ensure their needs are met and feelings accepted.

Each key person will develop strong relationships with parents and children during settling in sessions, daily contact and also nursery events to ensure they show effective shared care for each child. We invite parents to become involved in nursery activities or to replicate or add to them in their home experience through our bi-monthly “Activities at Home” flyer and bi-monthly newsletter and to view and add to their child’s learning journey by contributing to the child development folders which are maintained for each child by our practitioners.

Keeping Safe

Our practitioners believe that all young children are vulnerable and have the right to be safe and protected. Key people encourage every child at each stage to take appropriate risks and learn how to keep safe including an awareness of their own safety in active experiences. In our circle times for older children we reflect and use specific stories and scenarios to illustrate.

A secure environment is of paramount importance to us at Edgbaston Nursery School. We are proud of the first class environment we provide for the children in our care, and of the personal qualities and skills that our manager and staff bring to the task of caring for children in a way which develops the potential of each child.

Assess & Review

We review our practices on a regular basis, and this includes health and safety, fire and risk assessments. All staff complete mandatory training to ensure health and safety requirements are observed throughout the nursery and in all work activities.

Secure access system

We have a secure door entry system, only allowing access through the main front door by way of a centrally monitored key fob issued only to parents/carers.

CCTV system

We have a CCTV system which monitors all appropriate areas of the nursery. Parents can view their children from the monitor in our reception area. The system also stores recordings from all cameras for up to a month.

Authorised Collection

Through our collection policy we only allow authorised family or friends to collect a child. Permission is only granted if authorised by the parent and identification is required before access is granted. Each child is “signed in” at the start of each session and “signed out” upon collection.
